What does the Homeschool Program cost at Pathways Academy?

Our homeschool program is FREE! We are a public charter program, and therefore do not charge tuition.

Can I homeschool more than one child at a time?

Homeschooling through multiple children can be very rewarding for the entire family! You can work with your Academic Advisor in order to set goals for each and every child you would like to homeschool.

Do you offer field trips for your students?

We offer a wide variety of field trips throughout the year in order enrich the homeschooling experience. Some of our official field trips include Sea World, Riley's Farm, San Diego Museums, Gems & Minerals Exhibits, Hikes, Historical Reenactments, and so much more!

What type of curriculum do you provide?

We provide personalized curriculum for all subject areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/History, Physical Education and Special Interest. We have access to dozens of curriculum vendors that we deal with personally, and will make sure that your curriculum will best match your child's learning style and goals.

I'm not a certified teacher. Can I still homeschool my child?

Of course! You know your child better than anyone else, and we are sure you will make a wonderful teacher. Your family will be paired with a California credentialed teacher in order to introduce you to homeschooling, and guide you throughout the entire process.

How often are we required to come into the school?

You will meet with your family's Academic Advisor at least once every 20 school days (1 Learning Period). At these monthly meetings, we will collaboratively evaluate instruction, curriculum, assessment, and goals.

What about the new Common Core Standards? How does homeschooling fit into all of this?

The Common Core standards are not based upon specific curriculum, but more so centralized around higher level understanding and critical thinking. Our educational philosophy aligns directly with the four C's of Common Core that are currently being implemented: Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Communication. Fore more information about the Common Core Standards, visit www.achievethecore.org

Are there any classes my child can take at your school?

Yes! We offer a diverse selection of enrichment classes for K-8 students on-site that include core subjects such as science labs, math tutoring, and foreign language, as well as enrichment such as music, art, acting, and more. These classes are taught by both approved vendors and California Credentialed Teachers. They are optional for families, but are often a phenomenal addition to the schooling you do at home.

Do you offer any money to families to help pay for curriculum and outside vendor classes such as dance and piano lessons?

Of course! We offer each student $2500 per year of Instructional Funding for TK-8. This funding can be spent on curriculum materials through our approved material vendors, external classes such as music, dance and tutoring, YMCA & city-sponsored events, and more!

Our family travels quite a bit. Is it possible for us to homeschool even though sometimes we are gone for a week or so at a time?

This is most definitely an option with us! Your Academic Advisor will set personalized goals for your family, and select curriculum that will work for you on the road. Positive life experiences such as travel can be a meaningful tool to tie into homeschooling, and we can show you how.

Do you have an enrichment site?

Our homeschool Enrichment site is located in North County San Diego at the following address: 292 E. Barham Drive San Marcos, CA 92078.
